Linda Gregoire
Word Processing Supervisor, Pillsbury Winthrop, LLP
Microsoft Office Specialist
For Linda Gregoire, Microsoft® Office Specialist certification opened several windows of opportunity, including career advancement, a substantial raise, and bonus.
Gregoire advanced her word processing career when Pillsbury Winthrop LLP, an international law firm, opened a word processing supervisor position. After a successful interview, Gregoire was offered the position on the condition that she complete Microsoft Office certifications for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Already an expert user of Word and Excel, she brushed up on her skills by using Active Education courseware to cram for the exams. While preparing, she was surprised to learn all kinds of advanced functions to help complete complex tasks.
Pillsbury Winthrop pays for all training materials and courses and, as a Certiport Center, provides certification exams free of charge to its Document Production Center employees.
Gregoire praises the "forward thinking" of her company to provide Microsoft Office training and certification. She says, "It produces a better-qualified, more productive labor force for the firm and improves the self-esteem and confidence of employees." In addition to these benefits, each of these employees receives a $250 bonus for each certification passed.
As Word Processing Supervisor of the Document Production Center, Gregoire is responsible for formatting, editing, and creating documents and presentations for the firm. Microsoft Office certification has given her the added confidence to tackle challenging projects in new and more efficient ways-already resulting in a significant raise and bonus.
Word Processing Manager, Mary Sainsbury, explains why the company generously invests in training and certification for employees. "Microsoft Office certification has been a huge morale booster for our employees," she says, "Our firm receives more than we invest in the training and certification by having a word processing department with the highest level of word processing expertise."
Gregoire will expand her certifications to include PowerPoint and Outlook 2000 within the year. In order to further excel, she will also study and prepare for Access and Project 2000 exams. She is proud to work for a company that invests in its employees. She explains, "We feel we are experts in these applications because of Microsoft Office certification-it's not just another piece of paper on the wall."
