Connie McLaughlin
Senior Executive Assistant, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation
Microsoft Office Specialist
When the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation moved from Corel to Microsoft® Office programs, there was a rush in the office to get up to speed on the new features of the program suite.
Executive Assistant Connie McLaughlin soon realized that she too had to brush up on her Office program skills. Through Microsoft manuals and courses, McLaughlin not only updated her skills, she also became the first person in Montana to receive Microsoft Office Specialist Master certification on Office 97 and Office 2000.
Since passing the certification exams at Watercolor Computer Training, McLaughlin has been working with other administrative assistants to increase their knowledge and performance with Office programs. "I want others to see the benefits of certification," McLaughlin explains. "My self-confidence has improved, and the image that others have about what skills and knowledge are necessary to be an effective administrative assistant has been elevated."
Expert knowledge of Microsoft Office allows McLaughlin to develop methods to improve interdepartmental communication and increase office efficiency. She now develops consistent documentation templates, and provides technical assistance and training to her coworkers.
Chief Executive Officer Gary Wolfe says he supports any employee who strives to increase their knowledge and productivity at the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. "It is our policy to offer continuing educational opportunities for our outstanding employees," he says. "Connie absolutely fits into this category, so it is a given that we support the Microsoft Office certification process."
Because of McLaughlin's incredible experience and devotion to the Microsoft Office certification program, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation is now considering making the certification a requirement for all administrative assistants.
