Certiport Inc Expands IC³ Digital Literacy Certification to Five New Languages
Salt Lake City (October 24, 2002) Certiport, Inc., the leading provider of global certification programmes and services, today announced that its IC³ (Internet and Computing Core Certification) programme has been expanded to cover five new languages. The new languages are German, Italian, Greek, Norwegian and Dutch with plans to include Spanish and Japanese editions before the end of the year. IC³ is the first globally recognised and professionally validated standard for basic information & communications technology (ICT) skills.
According to David Saedi, executive vice president of Certiport, "IC³ is the basic building block of an individual's ICT skills development and a solid start for career building. Since its successful launch in Europe this summer, the demand for IC³ has been substantial. Now, native speakers in Dutch, Italian, Greek, Norwegian or German can demonstrate their skills more effectively using tests in their own language."
Mr Saedi went on to say that a significant number of organisations in the marketplace have questioned how to assess the basic ICT literacy qualifications that run across many markets. "There is an urgent need for validated, consistent, robust and internationally recognised testing that goes further than other offerings in the market. Certiport has worked with academics, employers and teachers globally over the past few years to identify what skills and knowledge are necessary for basic information and communications technology competence. This has culminated in the IC³ programme."
IC³ is a standard that proves the holder has current and relevant computing and Internet skills needed to thrive in today's information society. For many, it is their first computing qualification. It tests an individual's basic ICT competence, as well as the student's understanding of hardware, software and computer networks. IC³ uses an interactive series of exams, which test knowledge, practical skills and problem solving ability. It is unique in its use of digital transcripts via a secure and authenticated website where candidates can view exam and certification results online at any time and access can be granted to employers or educators to verify candidate results.
The standard is endorsed by CompTIA, which represents more than eight thousand computing and communications companies worldwide. CompTIA provides common standards in certification for the ITC industry and has recommended IC³ as a precursor to all of its own certification programmes.
The IC³ Global Standard
IC³ is the only recognised global industry standard for measuring basic computing literacy. IC³ exam objectives were built by professional researchers, test developers, psychometricians and more than 270 subject matter experts (SMEs) in 19 countries -- all of whom contributed content and feedback and validated certification requirements. A student with IC³ certification not only has an understanding of computing fundamentals, key applications and online functionality, but also possesses the necessary foundation to excel into advanced technical and desktop application certifications. Organisations that are interested in obtaining more information about IC³ or other Certiport offerings should go to the Certiport website www.certiport.com.
