IC³ Recommended For College Credit By The American Council On Education
Certiport Certification Approved for General Education and IT-Related Credits

SALT LAKE CITY (October 2, 2002) — Certiport, Inc., the leading provider of global certification programs and services, today announced that its Internet and Computing Core Certification (IC³) has been formally recommended by the American Council on Education (ACE) for one college credit in general education and computer literacy. Individuals may receive college credit through more than 1,200 accredited, degree-granting colleges, universities, and other education-related organizations listed as cooperating colleges in the 2002 Guide to Educational Credit by Examination. Although other prominent organizations have endorsed IC³, this is the most widely recognized acknowledgement to date of IC³ as a proven academic credential.

"We are pleased to recommend IC³ as a valuable addition to quality curriculum for colleges and universities," stated Jo Ann Robinson, Director, ACE College Credit Recommendation Service. "These credit recommendations validate IC³ as being equivalent to college-level learning and speaks volumes to their quality."

"The recommendation from ACE is a key step for individuals seeking college credit from these institutions," said David Saedi, executive vice president for Certiport. "With 50 years of experience, an ACE Credit Recommendation establishes that the IC³ standard is important for academic validation of foundational skills necessary in today's digital economy."

Certain higher education institutions have already begun incorporating IC³ into their computer learning programs, tying IC³ certification to college credit at these institutions. However, by receiving a credit recommendation from ACE, students across the United States may seek this benefit from numerous other institutions. When comparing the cost of a college education and college credit hours, this recommendation also makes IC³ a very economical choice for students, as the cost of the IC³ exams are comparatively minimal. Colleges and universities accept ACE credit recommendations based on their own policies and requirements for each particular degree.

ACE joins a growing list of national and international organizations, like the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) and the National Skill Standards Board (NSSB), offering endorsement to IC³ as a valuable addition to mainstream professional, computer certifications.

The IC³ Global Standard
An industry standard for measuring basic computer literacy for academia and the workplace, IC³ exam objectives were built by professional researchers, test developers, psychometricians and more than 270 subject matter experts (SMEs) in 19 countries -- all of whom contributed content and feedback and validated certification requirements. A student with IC³ certification not only has an understanding of computing fundamentals, key applications and online functionality, but also possesses the necessary foundation to excel into advanced technical and desktop application certifications. Organizations that are interested in obtaining more information about IC³ or other Certiport offerings should contact Certiport at 1-800-572-9250.

About The American Council on Education
The American Council on Education (www.acenet.edu) is a comprehensive association of the nation's colleges and universities dedicated to higher education issues and advocacy on behalf of quality higher education programs. Counted among the Council's members are more than 1,800 accredited degree-granting colleges and universities and higher education related associations, organizations, and corporations.

ACE's Center for Adult Learning and Educational Credentials has championed lifelong learning for more than 50 years. In 1942, the Center pioneered the evaluation of education and training attained outside the classroom. The Center's Corporate Programs division recommends academic credit for college-level examinations and training offered in the workplace. Through this service, college and university faculty evaluate courses offered by business and industry, labor unions, associations, and government agencies and recommend college credit as appropriate.
