IC³ Program Receives ISTE NETS Seal of Alignment
IC³ distinguished as first NETS-aligned product available

SALT LAKE CITY, UT (July 1, 2003) — Certiport, the leading provider of global certification programs and services, today announced that the Internet and Computing Core Certification (IC³) program has met alignment requirements outlined by the National Educational Technology Standards (NETS) for both students and teachers and has been awarded the seal of alignment by The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE).

This esteemed distinction follows the earlier ISTE/Certiport strategic alliance announcement and is the outcome of the ISTE NETS Product Review Program.

ISTE concluded its review of the IC³ program on June 12, 2003 and has determined that it clearly supports implementation of the ISTE NETS for Students and Teachers. “The ISTE NETS Leadership Team is pleased to recognize a NETS-aligned product that is currently being implemented in schools across the country and around the world,” said Helen Barrett, PhD, co-director, community and assessment for ISTE. “As the first NETS-aligned assessment on the market, we anticipate teacher education programs currently incorporating NETS into their standards and curricula will evaluate IC³ as a tool to assess the basic skills needed to successfully use technology in their programs.”

“The availability of IC³ as an ISTE-aligned assessment product is an invaluable tool that can accelerate the implementation of ISTE NETS standards nationwide,” said David Saedi, president and CEO of Certiport. “By adopting IC³, state departments of education are better equipped to fulfill their mandate for benchmarking the educational attainment levels of both teachers and students with a universal standard.”

The ISTE NETS Project has enabled K-20 stakeholders to develop consensus standards -- and the essential conditions that support successful achievement of those standards -- for educational uses of technology. The underlying goal of the project is to improve teaching, learning, and school leadership through application of NETS for Teachers, NETS for Students (NETS*S), and NETS for Administrators (NETS*A).
