National Skill Standards Board (NSSB) Recognizes IC³
First Computer Certification to Make the Grade
Washington, DC (June 10, 2002) - Moving forward in its mission to build out the national skill standards system as mandated by the National Skill Standards Act, the NSSB Board has recognized the Internet and Computing Core Certification (IC³) - a new certification program from Certiport - as meeting the NSSB's rigorous quality assurance standards. These standards enhance the ability of the U.S. workforce to compete effectively in the global economy. IC³ becomes the first computer certification to be recognized through the NSSB's Certification Recognition Program.
"I am delighted with the Board's recognition of IC³, the first of what we hope will be many more IT certifications," remarked Edie West, NSSB Executive Director. "Certiport is a widely respected organization whose affordable certification programs have helped thousands succeed in their careers. I commend them for their commitment to excellence and wish them continued success."
"We are very pleased to have IC³ recognized by a distinguished organization such as the National Skill Standards Board," commented David Saedi, Executive Vice President of Certiport. "The global response to the IC³ digital literacy standard has been very positive because the exams fill a gap in the confirmation and measurement of basic computer and Internet skills. The NSSB's endorsement joins a growing list of those who recognize the impact of this first of its kind, globally validated certification."
IC³ is the latest certification program from Certiport (www.certiport.com), a leading provider of global, performance-based certification programs. IC³ is an industry recognized, entry-level computer and Internet literacy certification targeting learners such as students, teachers, prospective employees and workforce development participants. Businesses worldwide value IC³ as a tool to ensure that their workforces are fully competent in the use of computers and the Internet.
The NSSB instituted its Certification Recognition Program to offer specialty certifiers the opportunity to align their certifications with the emerging national skill standards system, which employs rigorous technical criteria to maintain a high level of quality assurance. This program is open to all interested organizations that sponsor industry-recognized certifications. Information on this program is available on the NSSB Web site at www.nssb.org.
The National Skill Standards Board is building a voluntary national system of skill standards, assessment, and certification that will enhance the ability of the United States to compete effectively in a global economy.
The standards are set by industry in full partnership with education, labor, civil rights, and community-based organizations. The standards will be based on high performance work and will be portable across industry sectors.
