Certiport Reaches Two Million Certification Exams
Utah Leaders Join World Certification Leader in Celebration
SALT LAKE CITY – April 27, 2004 Certiport® today
announced that the company has eclipsed the milestone of two million certification
exams delivered.
Achieving this mark in just over six years since the company’s inception
demonstrates the growing popularity of the Microsoft® Office Specialist
and Certiport Internet and Computing Core Certification (IC³®) programs
administered by the company. Joining company executives in today’s celebration
of this achievement were Gov. Olene Walker’s Deputy for Education, Darrell
White, representatives from the Utah State Office of Education (USOE), Salt
Lake Community College, Murray High School, Orem Junior High, DirectPointe,
Serview, and RHI OfficeTeam & Accountemps.
"Utah is setting a standard for advanced student computer and Internet
skills," said
Gov. Walker, who is encouraged by this collaboration between the private business
sector and Utah’s public education system. "Companies like Certiport
are helping Utah’s educational institutions by giving students a head
start, allowing them the opportunity to demonstrate the skills they have acquired.
These skills, learned well, will enable them to be successful in higher education
and the work force."
"Reaching the two million exam mark is very satisfying," said David Saedi,
CEO for Certiport. "Schools and employers recognize that global computer
certifications such as IC³ and Microsoft Office Specialist validate skills
essential for success academically and on the job. Utah is demonstrating leadership
in adopting skill standards that lead the industry, both in currency and relevancy."
USOE recently announced that the Certiport IC³ certification is approved for
course credit for high school students across the state for the state-mandated
Computer Technology course. Today’s ceremony is being held at the new
Certiport Plaza at 1276 South 820 East in American Fork, Utah.
Certiport employs more than one hundred workers in Utah alone, and delivers
certification testing in 18 languages through a global channel of more than
9,000 testing partners in 122 countries. The company’s highly endorsed
exams go through rigorous development utilizing subject matter experts from
around the world. Certiport has experienced 27 percent growth in exams delivered
over the past year. High Schools, universities, community colleges, workforce
development programs, and computer training centers deliver Certiport testing
as a key component of training in digital literacy and desktop computer proficiency.
This includes 60 testing centers in Utah including UVSC, DirectPoint, Serview,
USU, SLCC, SUU, New Horizons, and multiple high schools around the state.
