Certiport IC³ standard adopted by Orange County One-Stop Center & Coastline
Community College
ORANGE COUNTY – April 21, 2004 Certiport today is joining Orange County
One-Stop Center, Coastline Community College, Volt Staffing and human resource
executives from local employers to explore the role of the Certiport Internet
and Computing Core Certification (IC³) in preparing workers for jobs requiring
basic computer and Internet skills. Event host, Orange County One-Stop Center,
is showcasing its new training and testing center that better prepares potential
employees for corporations in attendance.
“So many jobs now require workers to hit the ground running with a basic
set of computer skills,” said Lois Wilkerson, director of workforce and
economic development for Coastline Community College’s Orange County
One-Stop Center. “The IC³ program allows us to teach to a globally
recognized standard that is a valuable measurement of worker effectiveness
on the job.”
“Today, effective use of computers and the Internet is an unquestionable
requirement and no longer an option for job seekers,” stated David Saedi,
CEO for Certiport. “IC³ provides the validation and universal proof
of acquired fundamental skills needed to ensure worker success in the digital
economy in Orange County and around the world.”
Attendees at today’s event will be given the chance to take an IC³ test
themselves. Certiport will demonstrate how IC³ provides significant advantages
to each stakeholder in the employment chain; from Student (Worker) to Testing
Center to Staffing Service to Employer:
•
Students (Workers) receive portable proof of skills
•
Testing Centers train and test to globally recognized standards
•
Staffing Services gain competitive advantage with proof of worker skills
•
Employers gets the right skills for the right job by hiring certified workers
According to a recent Gallup poll* 99% of adults in the U.S. agree that being
able to use computers is important for everyone. Yet, 25% reported having only
limited or nonexistent skills using computers and the Internet. Orange County
One-Stop Center and Coastline Community College are charged with the objective
to assist workers in gaining the digital skills required in today’s workplace.
Once certified, workers can show employers an online “Digital Transcript” of
their IC³ credential and provide evidence of computer literacy. Today’s
event brings to focus the growing global endorsement of the IC³ standard
by ACE, NSSB, CompTIA and ISTE (www.certiport.com/ic3)**.
An industry standard for measuring basic computer literacy for academia and
the workplace, IC³ exam objectives were built strategically by professional
researchers, test developers, psychometricians and more than 270 subject matter
experts (SMEs) in 19 countries—all of whom contributed content and feedback
and validated certification requirements. Workers with IC³ certification
not only have an understanding of computing fundamentals, key applications
and online functionality, but also possess the necessary foundation to excel
into advanced job opportunities with technical and desktop application skills
and certifications.
