For Immediate Release
New Global Digital Literacy Council Online Collaboration Web Site Links Experts
Around the World
NEW YORK – February 17, 2004 The Global Digital Literacy Council (GDLC)
today announced the creation of an online collaboration Web site dedicated
to the advancement of digital literacy throughout the world. The GDLC Community
site will link experts from every continent and provide a real-time, interactive
forum for collaborative effort to speed adoption of digital literacy standards
in education and the workplace. The site is sponsored by Certiport, Inc. and
hosted by The Kempster Group and Learning Times.
“
The GDLC community site will prove to be a valuable and useful resource for
the GDLC,” Jonathon P. Dalton, Sector Strategy Manager for The Learning
Skills Council in the UK and member of the GDLC. “As a council we are
located throughout multiple geographies. The community site will enable us
to meet more frequently and collaborate on important issues regarding digital
literacy.”
“
The GDLC community Web site and online meeting room is an important step in
advancing the issue of digital literacy,” states David Saedi, president
of the site’s sponsor, Certiport. “This resource will allow council
members from around the globe to easily meet and conduct business on a regular
basis. In addition, it will help the Council define and develop global standards
and practices for digital literacy, and provide the ability to ensure digital
literacy evolves to keep pace with market demands.”
The new community features access to interactive webcasts, ICT resource archives,
workshops and events, as well as tools for live, real-time collaboration, networking
and education. The community is being created to provide council members with
a secure, robust collaboration environment in which to conduct online meetings,
create white papers and resource tools, establish standards and best practices,
and deal with issues related to digital literacy.
The Global Digital Literacy Council (www.gdlcouncil.org) was formed in 2003
to address and advance the cause of digital literacy throughout the world.
The Council serves as an advisory body to the ICT Literacy Community and is
an authoritative voice on issues driving the development and implementation
of Global Digital Literacy standards and systems.
