Pillsbury Winthrop, LLP, an international law firm, enjoys the benefits of Microsoft® Office Specialist certification by requiring all of their Document Production Center employees to hold the credential.
These employees are responsible for formatting, editing, and creating documents and presentations for the entire firm. This can be a daunting task considering Pillsbury Winthrop is a general practice law firm, handling a large volume of cases that cover a wide range of legal issues.
Mary Sainsbury, Document Productions Center Word Processing Manager, was instrumental in adopting Microsoft Office certification as a requirement for her department. "It is critical that our employees have the skills to handle the variety of necessary legal tasks," she says. "We knew Microsoft Office certification would help achieve our goal of having the highest-trained, professional staff."
Pillsbury Winthrop pays for all training materials and courses and, as a Certiport Center, provides certification exams free of charge to its Document Production Center employees.
Linda Gregoire, Document Production Center Supervisor, praises the "forward thinking" of her company to provide Microsoft Office training and certification. "Microsoft Office Specialist certification produces a better-qualified, more productive labor force for the firm and improves the self-esteem and confidence of employees," she says. In addition to these benefits, upon successful exam completion each of these employees receives a $250 US bonus.
The Document Production Center boasts an impressive achievement of 100 percent employee certification at the Microsoft Word Expert level, and many employees also are certified in other Office programs. "We feel we are experts in these programs because of Microsoft Office Specialist certification," Gregoire says. "It's not just another piece of paper on the wall."
The effects of Microsoft Office certification go beyond the Document Production Center. "Our employees now produce higher-quality work and have learned skills that significantly reduce turn-around time on projects," says Sainsbury. "Our satisfaction rating with our attorneys has risen from 50 to 95 percent."
